It can be a daunting task, especially if you plan on using movers to take your items from point A to point B, as they may not use the same care in transporting everything as you would. So that means boxes and protective wrapping inside the boxes, but what about the items that can’t fit into a box?

You don’t want to go to the trouble and expense of moving items only to have them need to be replaced anyway because of large rips, stains, scratches, or other damage.
Protect wood furniture.
Wood furniture may seem like it doesn’t need as much protection as the other materials, but that’s not true. It’s easy to ding, dent, and scratch the wood during a move. In some cases, it’s even possible to splinter parts of the wood off, causing even more damage to the overall piece.
It can be helpful to use extra padding to ensure that nothing gauges the furniture as it’s being moved from the old house to the truck and then into the new place. There’s a great deal of potential for it to be banged up against something else during the multiple times it gets picked up and placed in another location. You also run a risk of it being rubbed up against something during the transport process.
Don’t just wrap your wood with a single blanket or cover. Instead, you’ll want to pad the piece to protect the surface while paying attention to adding extra padding to the corners and edges, as these areas are prone to damage during moves.
Use extra blankets or padded moving blankets with your wood furniture, as the padding will create a layer of protection from the wood coming into contact with surfaces that would scratch or damage it.
Protect leather furniture.
Leather furniture can be another tricky item to move as leather, while a sturdy material that can last for a long time, can be easily damaged with uncareful handling during a move. You’ll want to start by cleaning your leather furniture to remove any dust or debris on the surface that could damage it by being wrapped up against the leather surface.
Then, wrap it using your chosen material. To prevent rips, stains, and other damage, you may want to consider also using extra padding, especially on corners, legs, and armrests where damage may be more likely to occur during transport. In addition, extra blankets, cardboard, and similar materials can help provide protection.

How to protect linen furniture
Linen furniture can often easily stain and rip during the transportation process. You’ll want to clean it similarly to the leather furniture to remove dust and dirt from any hidden areas that could come out to stain it as the furniture is being moved.
Be sure to securely wrap up your linen furniture to completely cover the cloth to prevent any dark scuffs or stains that cannot be easily removed. You may also want to consider using cardboard sheets under the wrapping to cover surfaces, such as across the cushions, to help protect them from being poked.
What materials do I need to protect my furniture?
There are a wide variety of materials that you can use to protect your furniture. There are plastic covers, silicon covers, thick moving blankets, furniture pads, or even your old blankets and sheets to protect your furniture. You’ll also want to have extra packing tape, plastic wrap, twine, or rope to keep the covers in place if you are using blankets or other items that aren’t fitted to the piece.
